Coffee Shop Series: Cold Blooded Coffee & Roastery

Image
Cold Blooded Coffee & Roastery is truly a one-stop coffee shop.  At their location on Walnut Street in Murphysboro, not only can you get both hot and cold coffee, tea and other treats to enjoy immediately, but you can stock up on cans and growlers of the cold brew that Cold Blooded is known for!   When I visited the shop earlier this summer, tables were available outside as well as inside the beautiful historic building.  Spacious and airy with modern tunes playing in the background, the space is perfect for a quiet cup of coffee alone or to meet with a group of friends or coworkers.  According to the barista I spoke to on the day of my visit, the recessed shelves holding Cold Blooded merchandise were originally windows, now covered by the building next door that was constructed years ago.  With pressed metal ceilings, exposed brick walls, and modern light fixtures to pick up where the floor to ceiling front windows leave off, the atmosphere is a big part of the charm at Cold Blood

The Iron Whisk - Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch with Flair!

I may be the only person in the tri-state area that had not visited The Iron Whisk in Cobden,  Illinois.  That all changed on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend this year!  The rumors were true - this eatery is a treat for all of the senses.  On Front Street in Cobden, the Whisk is easy to access with plenty of parking in the attached lot and surrounding streets.  A host  at the door will take your name and number and call you when your table is ready.  The wait is well worth it!     Housed in a former service station, the high ceilings and large windows make for a bright and cheery atmosphere.  Banquette seating spans one wall with a high top table for six and several four-tops dispersed throughout the dining room.  Light fixtures are spaced along the ceiling with Mason jar fixtures covering the bulbs.  Upbeat, eclectic progressive tunes emanate from the sound system for a jovial background beat while dining with friends and family. Servers bustle around busily filling coffee cups, delive

Luna Silk Bath and Beauty Products

A few weeks ago I received a message from a friend of mine that I met while we were both modeling for a local fashion designer and mutual acquaintance.  Sonya Miller, a charming and stylish gal that always looks perfectly put together, has been in the beauty business for over twenty years.  Working as a hair stylist and later making the leap into business owner, I was so excited to hear from Sonya about her new line of bath and beauty products within her company, Luna Silk, Inc.   Luna Silk, Inc. already provides high quality support products to salon owners, including hair extensions and Sasakki Scissors.  When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Sonya had time to start reflecting on where she spends her money and what the products in her own bathroom look like.  Full of fillers, diluted, and with artificial ingredients, Sonya realized that the mass produced lotions, soaps, and bath products that many of us use are not worth the money we pay.  After contacting a friend she met while rec
